Systems healing (draft)

Systems constrain human action

■ How many times have you heard this? “It’s not that person’s fault. They have to work in the system.” People’s choices are constrained by law, local custom, social roles, kinship duties, job descriptions (and the list could go on). The way we think and act depends on our place in all these systems. It is not only about what one would want to do as an individual human.

Yet we need forms

■ On the other hand, the idea that we could “do away with” systems is naive. Tribes, guilds, workplaces and communities make up our habitat for being human. They sustain our skills, our learning and our languages themselves.

Systems can be healthy or unhealthy

■ All systems have a condition of optimal health. That’s the point at which they are most viable and sustainable. Sooner or later, unhealthy systems, like unhealthy bodies, are in danger of expiring.

■ Human systems, like human bodies are made up of physical (somatic) elements, symbolic forms (documents and texts), AND ENERGY FLOWS.

■ These energy flows can be healthy and balanced, or they may become stagnant, imbalanced or otherwise distorted.

■ In families or small villages we may observe stagnancy as blocked lines of communication. In larger communities, dysfunction may be observed at the level of systemic injustice. Formal institutions like corporations, guilds, or schools may develop rigidities, or an inability to adapt to the needs of their stakeholder groups. These symptoms are analogous to poor circulation, nutrient imbalances or arthritis in bodies.

Here’s the good news:

Systems can be healed …

■ (As a scholar of moral systems, I developed new ways to understand collective entities and corporate systems as agents.)

■ These agents can be approached as members of communities, players in the web of relationships around humans. Energy healers have just begun to understand that a collective entity can be treated as the client of a healing intervention.

■ An agent is any being that chooses and acts.

A moral agent is any being that acts or applies algorithms to make choices based on moral values.

■ Human collectives may be agents in a way that is not reducible to personal agency.

■ The same tools used to offer healing in a human energy field can be applied in the energy field of a collective entity. Therefore we can treat a collective or corporate entity as the direct client of a healing intention and intervention.

■ We know the planet has chakras.

■ Some chakras in the human body are not in identifiable physical locations. Likewise, a nation, a team, an institution, a school. a church or a corporation might have chakras “located” in their symbol systems or overtones.

■ What happens at a healing session? (soon . . . )
