Many choral and ensemble singers have felt a special kind of vocal resonance when we blend our sound in harmony with another friendly voice. This is a scientific phenomenon. It is also a beautiful form of human interaction, just like dancing with a partner.
Any two musical notes that harmonize will generate additional wave forms above and below the pair, to the extent that the timbres and pitches are well tuned to each other. These are known as overtones or implied resonances. They are really there!
By popular demand, this week we will pair off in breakout rooms and experiment with our capacity to generate implied resonances together. Bring your dancing shoes ;-!
Please be seated on a firm chair or stool. Wear clothing that allows you to bend and stretch. It’s best not to eat heavily before this voice session; but do have water or a warm drink available to sip.
Social time begins at 18:30, workshop 19:00 to 20:30.
REPORT AFTER THE FACT: Despite all the dire warnings, several two-person teams had an excellent experience with singing blended harmony in their zoom breakout room.
